We won, Mr Stark, we won
by Jemmy Paul, CEO and CIO Sucor Asset Management
For the last 11 years Marvel studios has won the hearts of this generation. I think many millennials learned what heroes are from watching all the marvelous Marvel productions. Movie series that outclassed DC comics that once shaped my Gen X generation and older through the figures of Batman and Superman. As a fund manager, I have to admit that I am big fan of Tony Stark for his perfect combination of competitive genius billionaire who happened to live flamboyantly. Some of you might idolize Captain America (Steve Rogers) for his heroic and leading actions. But Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man represents the true character of fund managers. We love to compete, think that we rule the world just because we have the sharpest and smartest minds, who can produce wealth and control the economy even though we do not own the capital. Some of us live on dreams by using the easy money to satisfy our hunger for entertainment in the name of justifying our hard work in the capital market.
Anyway, watching Marvel movies also evolved my opinion about the world of fund management. As Tony cared more and more about the world, I realize that what Uncle Ben (Spiderman’s Uncle) said “with great power comes great responsibility” is true. The excitement of this world will never satisfy our human basic ego to gain more, which might lead to disaster, and I found that to have a successful life is to share with others.
Since our fund has grown stronger and more successful, there are so many ways to take personal advantage, especially for me as the CEO and CIO of the company. But somehow, it is clearer than ever for me that my calling is to share my skills and knowledge for the greater good, for people who do not know how to manage their money to live better.
*spoiler alert*
Tony might have ended his journey as one of the most famous heroes in our era but for sure, he shows us what it means to be a hero.
We love you Iron man 3000x, and I thank all of our client for believing in us 3000x.
